You gave me a poem
And I didn’t know what to do with it
I couldn’t eat it
I couldn’t feed it
I couldn’t buy anything with it
When I threw it in the air
It came crashing down
When I finally read it
It did not turn my frown upside down
But made my brain stand on end
As I tried to understand what was written–
I’m sorry this is not my thing
I can’t accept your gift sight unseen
Even if you say it was meant for me
I’ll have to return your poetry
