To hinge on
One decision
Other opportunities
Had to collapse
While others
Came to fruition
Mistakes had
To be made
While other things
Done right–
Not too much
Not too little
So that
There’s no going back
Once you step forward
No sidestepping
The oncoming boulder
That is your fate
Once you have decided
To spring the trap
That was there all along
But you didn’t want
To see it

What the satellite
Orbiting a black hole
Just outside
The event horizon
Was transmitting

The heartache
Doesn’t want
To go away
No matter
How hard
I try to
Find my
Happy place

It’s hard to believe
That the secret to my success
Lies not in my own ability
But with my being
At the right place
At the right time

The chase
Is always on
The game
Never stops–
I want to give up
But the pain
Of standing still
Hurts
Just a little more
Than not finding
A keeper
Or not being kept
By someone else

So the question becomes
Who kept
The other stars
Out?

I am like a crane
Soaring just above the water
Or a unicorn
Prancing under the new moon
Because you see my potential
When others see
Only blank paper

Everything is new–
The home
The people
The work

But what I feel
And what I remember
Still is the same

I wish
I had
Lots of money

This scowl
Doesn’t want to
Come off
No matter
How hard
I smile
