I’m new here
Arrived a short time ago
I have a lot to do
So I can’t
Think about
What I left behind

There’s so much
To see here
But not enough
Of me to know
Everything
So I must
Walk away from
Unfocused curiosity

And in the distance
I see a glimmer
As I get closer
I realize it’s you–
First contact

I’m speaking through
A fishbowl whenever
I try to tell you
What’s on my mind
I’m listening as if
I’m underwater
As you try to say
Whatever it is
You’re trying to
Tell me

You gesture to me
A few times
But I’m not sure
What you mean

With every step
I take along
The outer edges of
Your life
I can’t find a way in
Even though I can
Clearly see nothing
Between us

Then you walk away
And I’m not sure
If I can ever
Start over again
Because I know
Too much time
Has passed for me

Time to move on
