Grieving

I’m here to bury you
First meetings and revealings
Concealing what I’m feeling

Attending your funeral
Subdued smiles helpful gestures
Thoughts defiled sacred work ethic

Lowering your corpse
Profanity laced sarcasm
Outbursts of song–
It’s all wrong wrong wrong

Flowers thrown at the gravesite
From the cult that surrounds you
And the assassin who found you–

My mission complete
Who’s the next target?

Fake

I am an exiled wanderer
Looking for another place
To call home
Another cause
To swear allegiance to–

Roaming through the desert
An oasis bathed in myth
Promises a reasonable future
If I’m willing to make the journey
If I’m willing to rejoin humanity

When I arrive
There is celebration
But not for me
It was as if the heavens parted–
The townsfolk rejoiced
For the great things you did
And in a gleeful chorus
Echoed hopes of what
You have yet to accomplish
When the sun shined
It was upon you
The savior of all

I am not from around here
But somehow I have been
Captured by you as well
Your intentions may not be ill
But you make my heart flutter
With every word you utter
Mingled with your visionary vocabulary
A refreshingly sweet fragrance
That is not teen spirit
But humor playfulness and hope

A realization dawns on me
Does anyone else know this?
As if by a command from on high–
You are my savior
You will be loved

Months pass
I have recently
Fallen to the madness
But not yet completely
Every day I am exhausted
From bearing my countenance
Under a stoic scowl
While my conflicted emotions
Below the surface
Imprisoned no way out
Confined upon a rack

I remember
I have been here before
Just suffering for other causes
Spell locked and heart bound
Cursed by a weakness
Another’s kindness
Weighs heavily when pressed
On the scales of my heart
Making me vulnerable
To tiny seemingly innocent nudges–
I have been here before
I remember–

Let the detox begin
Love is my sin
Yet you’re not worth
My adoration

I’m just a follower to you
So your mission can continue
Only commands and inspiration you can give
Despite my hopeful imagination
For other gifts

Oh insanity insanity insanity–
Why again do I pledge fealty
Hoping for something different?
You are no different
From the others
Who speak of
Hope humanity and redemption
But can only offer uncertainty
But why should I be surprised?
You are a savior after all
That is what you do–

And so the exiled wanderer
Was doomed no matter what

Necromancer

How long are you going
To keep up the charade?
I’m on to you–
You can’t raise the dead
Let alone awaken
Someone in a deep sleep
With your singsong spells
You can’t evoke a reaction
Let alone inspire someone
With mashed up word play
You can’t change minds
Let alone change the world
With recycled sonnets of summoning
The magic you use is
So formulaic so theoretical
You might have stolen it
From a failed astrology book!
Don’t you think it’s time
To give it all up and
Rejoin the monastery?
The Church misses you

Just here

Minding my own business
Listening to your words
Thinking about what you said
Wondering why I’m here

They are negotiating
Even sharing barbs against outsiders
I’m counting what’s been said
Still wondering why I’m here

Someone’s watching me
As I mind my own business
They think they know me
Based on what I told them before

But it’s hard to choose words
That uncomplicates what I feel
Hard to explain the many phases
That I dwell in

So why get caught in
Tangled webs sticky emotions?
Better to just be a mindful fly
Not dying hard but living free

Success

You have arrived
Each day you maneuver through
Each minute not slowing your pace
Each task checked off your list
Sometimes done on time
Sometimes done late
You even have time to share
Your random thoughts on random things
With random people randomly around you
Someone compliments you and
You compliment them back
Everything seems well
You think
You are
Where you
Need to be

And I
Quietly sit
In the corner
Where
All doubt hides
Waiting
For you
To fail
