There was a story in the news
About you when you flew around the world–
But you never came back
What happened to you?

What was left of your plane was found in an archipelego–
Did you make it to land
To spend the rest of your life?
And if you did
Did you count the futures you would miss?
What did you do in the time you had left?

I hate to think you died alone
On a deserted island
With only
Your thoughts your hopes your dreams
As your only companions–

I would like to think that you did return to us
Maybe quietly
You realized the world thought you died trying
To achieve another air travel record
So you wanted to live
A life more ordinary
Maybe you found someone to spend your last years with
Maybe you raised a family
Maybe not–
Or maybe you found
A corner of the world
That never knew who you were
And welcomed you as who you wanted to be
A place where
You would always be blessed
With beautiful sunsets
