Meteor

It’s the sound a bough makes
Before it’s gonna break
And knowing I can’t catch you before you fall

You’re far out on a limb
The margin of error is thin
You make small talk just to stall

You say your life’s a waste
So you’ve quickened the pace
To do all the things you wanted to

Checking stuff off your list
But there’s a lot you’ll still miss
Once the past has caught up and run you through

You ask why did he have to leave
You thought you’d be everything he’d need
But he was never the man you thought he’d be
And only now the truth you’re beginning to see–

And I can hear the crash
When you begin to laugh
The tears in your eyes have dried away

Then my heart hits the floor
When your laughs are no more
You’ve chosen to let go of today

Since tomorrow won’t be coming and the past has long gone
Living with memories of what could’ve been right is so wrong

Then down you came and I have myself to blame
Because I couldn’t catch you so I watched you fall
