A letter to Rhonda S.

Dear Rhonda S.

When you finish reading this post
Don’t forget to scroll down–
You can see earlier posts that way
And don’t forget to revisit this blog
Because it’s updated daily

Well enough with my advertising!

Now for something way more important–

Don’t be afraid to keep a journal
Bring it wherever you go
Write anything in it as long as you try to write something
Your memoir can easily start with this journal
Don’t be afraid of what you see
Read aloud your journal entries
To develop an awareness of your writing voice
Most of all
It’s still your journal
You can decide what to edit afterwards
Express your raw thoughts and emotions
Then tone it down or dramatize whatever you want
Play as you write
Play with what you have already written
Don’t be afraid to make a mess

I take a grade school composition book
With me whenever I expect to do some waiting
Like at an appointment
Or during a break at work
A lot of what you’re reading in this blog
Was first written in a composition book!

I hope some of these ideas help
And if you get around to writing something
And feel like sharing
I’d be honored if I could read a draft copy

May you find
inspiration
every day
of your life,

Vj E.
